Building Our World's Infrastructure

As a civil engineer you’re acutely aware of the impact your work has on the world around you. From our local community roadways to our world’s largest mega-structures, and almost everywhere in between, civil engineers are tasked with establishing a sustainable infrastructure for our future.

Throughout history, civil engineering and its sub disciplines have been linked to societal growth as well as advances in the understanding of physics and mathematics. Today, civil engineering continues to play a major role in our cultural development, locally and globally. By planning, designing, constructing, rebuilding and maintaining our modern infrastructure, civil engineers essentially lay the foundations for humankind.

Leading the Way
To create and maintain our nation’s infrastructure it takes teamwork. Civil engineers from a variety of different disciplines work together to rebuild and improve our existing infrastructure, or build anew. The success of a project often depends on an engineering project manager’s knowledge, experience and understanding of the many interrelated components that factor into every engineering project. Effective leadership, communication and planning are vital components when safety, money and time are of paramount concern.

In addition to the projects and systems they design and manage, civil engineers can become leaders in the push for improving our world through sustainable construction methods and environmentally conscious design. By improving our existing transportation systems to me more efficient and durable, developing construction projects that minimize the impact on the natural world, creating structures, systems and processes that will remain useful and functioning for future generations, and by designing everything with our world’s growing population in mind, civil engineers can have a transformative effect at a global scale.

Future Engineering Leadership
New Jersey Institute of Technology’s online Master of Science in Civil Engineering is designed to educate and motivate the next generation of civil engineering leadership. With a curriculum focused on building both technical engineering competence and management skills, the flexible online format allows active civil engineers to continue their careers while developing the advanced management tools they’ll need to effectively lead projects from concept to completion.
